Written by TReNDS Staff

SDSN’s Data Thematic Network convened for their bi-annual face-to-face meeting on March 13th and 14th, 2016 at the SDSN secretariat in New York. The meeting was attended by 18 participants representing academia, multi-lateral agencies, private sector and non-profits from across the world. Some key topics of discussion were:

(1) Identifying pathways for the Data TN to effectively contribute to SDG implementation, working in partnership with SDSN’s National Networks and city-level activities,

(2) How to support the ongoing work of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD), and

(3) Defining the structure for the group’s forthcoming flagship report on Data for Development.

Additionally, SDSN’s Data Thematic Network members showcased projects that they are currently developing under the banner of SDSN Solution Initiatives. Projects relate to new data infrastructures, data reconciliation tools and approaches, and the use of telecommunications data for mobility and environmental monitoring.

A work plan for the remainder of 2016 was established, including a proposal to organise a workshop on the role of Data in Governance within the next several months.
