This session is focused on improving subnational data on administrative boundaries, place names, settlements, and populations as a basis for integrating diverse data needed to meet diverse sustainable development and humanitarian objectives. It will highlight specific progress being made by the new Geo-Referenced Infrastructure and Demographic Data for Development (GRID3) initiative, which is a partnership between the United Nations Population Fund, WorldPop/Flowminder, CIESIN, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the UK Department for International Development. TReNDS co-chair Robert Chen (CIEISIN) is a co-organizer of this panel.
This panel is part of the UN World Data Forum 2018, the second annual event bringing together data and statistics experts from government, business, civil society, and the scientific and academic communities.
