About the Event
Co-hosted by TReNDS, Open Data Watch, Oxford Insights, and DataReady, the scope of this session is on the relationship between the need for global normative principles, regulations, and standards for data governance and the concrete policy and programmatic needs of governments, NSOs, and development partners. It will explore the interconnections between global frameworks and national policies, and how ethics, principles, protocols, and guidance can come together to form a safe and accommodating data governance landscape; highlight the operational data governance and management issues for use by country-level stakeholders when planning and developing new data partnerships and programmes of work; call attention to the need for locally-relevant, open, and inclusive data governance policies and laws that empower governments and NSOs to experiment with data in responsible ways; and take stock of major policies, regulations, and frameworks to produce a set of recommendations on data governance for global standard-setting bodies. The session will be moderated by TReNDS' Co-Chair, Shaida Badiee and will feature expert member, Tom Orrell as a panelist, and TReNDS' Director, Jessica Espey, as a discussant.
