The world’s population has nearly quintupled in the past 100 years, yet our understanding of our fellow global citizens is often still limited and out of date. Many of the SDG indicators have a direct connection to total population count, and over recent years, gridded population data have proven integral for policymakers to better measure population growth, monitor change, and plan interventions. However, a recent survey of National Statistical Offices revealed that officials are still largely unaware of such resources. In this webinar, produced in partnership with Geospatial World Media, SDSN TReNDS will present insights from its forthcoming report, including the potential and limitations of gridded population data, as well as an analysis of the major gridded population data sets produced by organizations participating in our POPGRID collaborative.
