This event is a closed roundtable bringing together leading voices from national governments to reflect on the evolution of statistical systems since 2015, emerging good practice, and what governments can do to drive statistical modernization. Representatives from Permanent Missions will have a particularly important role as they drive forward the agenda of reform heralded internationally and represent national and regional interests in the UN Statistical Commission. This conversation will emphasize how all stakeholders can best empower and support governments, as those most accountable for the SDGs’ success, to implement radical data system transformations and act on evidence-based approaches to achieve the SDGs. This gathering will center on the voices of the national governments themselves, with complementary insights from contributors to flagship reports from the broader data community such as A World That Counts (2014) and the forthcoming update to TReNDS’ Counting on the World (2017).
